Brief History
All three members met through the Weekend Warriors Music Program run by Ellaways' Music Stores in Brisbane. John and Jim went through very early rounds of the Program in 2000 and soon after took the opportunity to play acoustically as solo performers. Starting at Chermside Bowls Club on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons, they were regulars there for nearly 18 months. During this time they decided to form a duo and called themselves 'Cruise Control'. They also played various other gigs, being regulars at Warriors events and appeared on TV and radio to promote the Warriors Program.
They then began a very long residency at the Seabrae Hotel in Redcliffe, performing there Friday nights for over two years. It was here that they really developed their skills and were exposed to the full range of experiences only to be had while playing in an Aussie public bar. They continued their relationship with the Warriors and also performed at a range of venues including the Ferny Grove Tavern and performed at the Wintersun Festival in Coolangatta on several occasions.
Next was a six month stint, Friday nights at O'Tooles Bar on Oxley Rd., followed by three months at the Alliance Hotel in Spring Hill on Sunday afternoons.
Participation in Warriors events continued to be important to both John and Jim and it was during this time that they met Suzi. Suzi has played in a duo based in Katherine, NT, Australian before moring back to Brisbane. She attended the Weekend Warrior program in Brisbane in 2005. She was the opening act for a Guns n' Roses tribute band that played the Mansfield Tavern, Brisbane in June 06. She joined the Cruise Control boys to perform in the Caboolture Urban Country Music Festival and the gig went so well that in 2006, Cruise Control became a trio.
Since that time they have added the role of 'party band' to their resume, due in part to their acoustic format being smaller and quieter than a full band, but also due to their wide-ranging repertoire which appeals to all ages and most musical tastes. They have been playing a continuous round of engagements for a wide range of events including birthday parties, company Christmas parties and weddings.
Their shared love of music, singing and performing often means 'spot' appearances at a wide variety of events, both individually and together. On infrequent nights off, no karoake session is safe from a Cruise Control invasion, no matter what venue. They look forward to sharing a musical experience with you sometime soon - you never know where your paths might cross.....
